The Chorley course looking pretty and benign!
I’m just catching up with results so that the site is up-to-date. Thanks to Roy Gunnett for the reports. Watch out for a special pre-race piece on Ron Wallwork’s 2 hours record to be celebrated on September 10th at Bury.
Goodwin Cup 10km, Chorley (Sat. 13th Aug.)
Michael Lane, the Irish National Coach and coordinator, came along to the race with one of his athletes – namely Veronica Burke (Ballinasloe & District). Veronica, who is 19, walked a great race and won the scratch event. Tony Taylor was second and won the handicap. The times set by both Veronica and Tony were excellent – particularly when taking account of the Chorley course which is very hilly.

We were delighted to have Tetyana Kryvokhyzha from the Ukraine walking as a guest in this race reports Roy Gunnett. She is a World Masters Champion. Tetyana’s daughter Olena Walker also came along to spectate. Olena has done a 4hrs 36mins for 50k which was 3rd best in the world at the time she set it. Olena recently had a baby and has not yet returned to racing. The 10km race was held over the usual hilly three lap course comprising two large laps and one small. The weather was mild (15c) and overcast with the rain (apart from a few spots) holding off until the finish of the race. Adrian Edwards won the scratch race and Sailash Shah the handicap.
