The name of Pearce is an indelible memory, imprinted deep in the history of our club. Fred Pearce Snr died in 1996 and our immediate response was to hold in his name a Memorial Relay on May 15th of that year. Following Fred Pearce Jnr’s passing in 2019 the event took on an even more profound place in the club’s calendar.

Thus it is that the 30th Fred Pearce Memorial Relay will take place on Saturday, July 25th at the by now traditional venue in Simister, starting at 1.00 p.m.
As ever it would be very helpful if you could let Dave Evans know if you are attending and in what capacity – dave.evans08@hotmail.co.uk
I can but endorse the open invitation penned by Roy Gunnett, which our dear friend, Dave Ainsworth did include in the latest ‘ESSEX WALKER’

AN INVITATION FOR ALL
At the last Lancashire Walking Club race we had a discussion about the forthcoming Fred Pearce 3x5k relay. We thought it would be a good idea to extend a welcome to everyone across the country who might like to do this event. It would be an opportunity for walkers to meet up and see old friends. The team race is a 3 legged relay, each team comprises 3 members and each member of the team does 5k. To help spread the word about this event would it be possible to include this invite in the next Essex walker? Our club would be very grateful if you could. Event: Fred Pearce 3x5k Relay. Date: Saturday 25th July 2026. Start Time: 13:00hrs. Venue: Lady Wilton Hall, Simister Lane, Simister, Manchester M25 2SB. Anybody who intends to enter should contact Dave Evans, the Lancashire Walking Club Chairman, using this address: Contact Dave at dave.evans08@hotmail.co.uk
Promising I’ll be there and hoping you might be!
