CLUB 2023 REVISED FIXTURES and a Post-War Memory

Thanks to David Lamb for this evocative image of his dad, George competing in the walk at the Leyland Motors Sports Day in 1949 – to great applause. Long gone are the days when the post-war industrial giants felt paternally obliged to provide sporting and cultural facilities for their employees and families.

The asterisks against Simister indicate a slight doubt as to whether the venue will be available due to extensive rewiring of the Lady Wilton Hall. However we are confident that all will be well by July. Given our harmonious relationship with the Hall and its committee we have made a good will donation of 100 pounds to the cost of the works.

Thanks to Roy Gunnett for the update.
